Old school, on purpose
No app, no tablet, no notifications. Just a child, a pencil and one topic.
- Nothing to tapThere are no sounds, rewards or pop-ups competing for attention, so the Maths is the only thing on the page.
- Ten focused minutesEach level is built to take about ten minutes: short enough to finish, long enough to practise concentrating.
- Thinking on paperEvery question has its own squared box for working out, so children learn to set out their method and you can see how they got there.
Inside every book
Each topic sits on its own double page, so a child always knows what they are practising and can finish it in a single sitting.
Every topic starts gently and builds to real problem solving, so the same book works for a child who needs more confidence and for one who wants a challenge. The series is growing to cover Years 1 to 6.
Every book is written for the National Curriculum in England. Each topic is also labelled with its IB PYP mathematics strand (Number, Pattern and function, Measurement, Shape and space or Data handling), so the books work well alongside PYP classes. Each cover also gives the class for the same age group in the US and Canada, IB PYP schools, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and France: see the year guide.
- Screen-free: a pencil and the page, nothing else
- A4, 64 pages, one book for each school term
- 30 topics, each on its own double page
- Four levels on every topic, about ten minutes each
- A worked example at the start of every topic
- A squared working-out box for every question
- Written for the National Curriculum in England
- Every topic labelled with its IB PYP Maths strand
How the books work
Every unit has four levels on a double page, about ten minutes each. Start at any level.
- Level 1Warm-up: a few questions on last year's work, then this year's skill in its gentlest form.
- Level 2The skill as the National Curriculum expects it for the year.
- Level 3Using the skill when it is not signposted: several steps, real contexts, working backwards.
- ExpertReasoning: explain, convince, find every possibility. A real challenge.
Which book for my child?
Every book is written for a year of the National Curriculum in England. Find your child's class in your own system, and read across to the England year: that is the book to choose.
| England | US · Canada · IB PYP | Australia | Germany | Switzerland | France | Ages |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Kindergarten | Foundation | Vorschule | 2H | GS | 5–6 |
| Year 2 | Grade 1 | Year 1 | Klasse 1 | 3H | CP | 6–7 |
| Year 3 | Grade 2 | Year 2 | Klasse 2 | 4H | CE1 | 7–8 |
| Year 4 | Grade 3 | Year 3 | Klasse 3 | 5H | CE2 | 8–9 |
| Year 5 | Grade 4 | Year 4 | Klasse 4 | 6H | CM1 | 9–10 |
| Year 6 | Grade 5 | Year 5 | Klasse 5 | 7H | CM2 | 10–11 |
Switzerland's HarmoS numbering counts the two kindergarten years: 6H, for example, is 4. Klasse in German-speaking cantons and 6P in French-speaking ones.
The match is by age. No two curricula teach the same topics in the same order, so each book's topic list is on its back cover and its Amazon page.
